April Top of the Month Club 2018
This Spring we have had some spectacular days of sunshine; so spectacular in fact, that we were gleefully tossing around phrases like “the sunny south,” and “the living is easy.” There was so much early warm sunshine that the flowering Magnolia lost all her restraint and burst into full bloom - just before winter came rushing back. Now she bears a crown of frost-burned flowers, a monument to the hazards of premature exuberance. Like the flowering Magnolia, I also have been pulled up short by the cold. My appreciation of this grey, rainy weather is still tepid, but I am glad that the chill is keeping other trees from blossoming too soon; it gives me hope that there will be summer fruit. I do miss the sun, but I respect what this rain is doing for the water table, the trees, and the soil. Spring’s warmth will eventually arrive and in the meantime, welcome to April Showers, our April TOMC!
Our wool this month is Finn. The micron count of this Finn is in the same 25 micron range as our BFL, so you can use it for both outer garments and for garments that are going to be worn closer to the skin. Finn has a satiny luster that gives the yarn an inner glow. The fiber itself is open and easy to spin and makes yarn with lots of body, whether your yarn is thick, thin, or in-between.
Our wool/silk blend this month is 80/20 Merino/Tussah Silk.
